TIRC (Trouble in River City) Records was started by me (Kopper) in the spring of 2000 with the release of the Landlocked & Loaded! compilation CD and the Honkeys “Tossage” 7″ EP. After that, the label lay dormant for several years until the release of Dissatisoul by Left Arm in 2008. I really had nor have any intentions of making this a serious label. It’s just a simple DIY thing where I help out some bands I like.

That’s all I feel like writing right now. I’ll add more later.

    THE NEVERMORES: Nevereverafter CD (TIRC-006)

Recorded in a drafty, dilapidated warehouse and mixed in the embalming room of a former mortuary, THE NEVERMORES’ debut album, Nevereverafter, practically oozes with a slimy mixture of overt Edgar Allan Poe references and fuzzy garage scuzz befitting their lo-fi mindset and obsession with Roger Corman’s classic B-movie retellings of Poe tales.

Left Arm - Electric Babies EPTHE NEVERMORES: Nevereverafter CD (TIRC-006)

Recorded in a drafty, dilapidated warehouse and mixed in the embalming room of a former mortuary, THE NEVERMORES’ debut album, Nevereverafter, practically oozes with a slimy mixture of overt Edgar Allan Poe references and fuzzy garage scuzz befitting their lo-fi mindset and obsession with Roger Corman’s classic B-movie retellings of Poe tales. With songs such as “I Lost Lenore,” “Tell-Tale Heart” and “Annabelle Lee,” you can almost hear the screeching and groaning from Ligeia’s tomb in the background. Although their music is technically “garage rock,” it’s somehow got a much bigger sound. The boys like to refer to it as “warehouse rock.”

Garage-rock lives—and even flourishes—in the scene that these four Poequoting degenerates have unashamedly set on the release of this LP. From the sucker-punch of “Hideous Eye” to the swimming-pool percussion of “What Don’t You Know?,” all of the bases that have already been covered are covered here once more, but possibly Nevereverafter.

    WHAT “THE CRITIC” SAYS:

“Once inside a rock club dreary, while I sat stupefied and beery, before many a dull and tedious song by some forgotten bore. While I nodded, nearly snoring, suddenly there came a roaring, tremendous chords that sent me soaring, so I asked the guy working the door: ‘Who are these garage-rocking giants that compel me to get out on the floor?’ Quoth the door guy: ‘The Nevermores.’” -Jason Toon (Riverfront Times)

LEFT ARM: Electric Babies 7″ EP (TIRC-005)

Electric Babies is the follow-up to 2007’s 12-song LP, Dissatisoul, (TIRC-003) and contains 3 hot new tracks recorded at Ghetto Recorders studio in Detroit (the birthplace and mecca of dirty garage rock’n'roll) on 2″ analog tape with the legendary producer/engineer, Jim Diamond. Among others, Diamond helped shape the sounds of the White Stripes, the Gore Gore Girls, Electric 6 and the Dirtbombs and was an integral part of the “Garage Rock Explosion” of the early 2000s. Additionally, the packaging features the hand screen-printed artwork of drummer Jason Potter and is limited to an edition of 300.

    The 75s: Stereo EP (TIRC-004)

Girlie Pop for the NM+9 (New Millennium Plus Nine, duh). For some reason local brokenheartthrobs The 75s were so desperate for exposure that they just up and decided to let TIRC Records give their shit away for FREE (or for a “small donation”… yeah, right, check). So here you have it.

For some reason local brokenheartthrobs The 75s were so desperate for exposure that they just up and decided to let TIRC Records give their shit away for FREE (or for a “small donation”… yeah, right, check). So here you have it. Download this aural sweetness that’s like the sugar (Sugar in the Raw, baby!) on St. Louis’ bitter rock’n'roll mug o’ mud. If there’s ANY band in this town that has a chance to turn at least a few hipsters’ heads, it’s these gals. Um, guys… er, gals and guy, whatever. You get what I’m saying, I hope. By the way, while it’s not on this particular recording, “Finders Keepers” from the band’s full-length LP, Extra Fancy, made the Village Voice Pazz & Jop Poll this year! How ’bout THAT?! And, like all TIRC releases, The 75s’ music ispodsafe! So play it on your podcasts, ya scurvy nurds!

Check out what the CRITICS are saying about The 75s:

“This is girly punk music stripped back to the bare basics with more than a hint of a vintage K Records sound tunefully dispatched amongst the chords. Nice!”
    - Tom at the Indie MP3 blog, 7/7/07

“Listening to an advance demo of The 75s’ Extra Fancy debut CD. Seriously, best St. Louis export since Bunnygrunt. Extra Fancy is what Cub and later Buck could and should have been: the work of a fun, ragged rock band with keen pop songwriting skills and a healthy Ramones fixation.”
    - Mike Appelstein, Hot Out Herre blog, 12/26/07

“… maybe it’s just refreshing for me to see a band like the 75s because it falls outside the usual poncy, pretentiousness that is my day to day currency. I dunno. It also doesn’t hurt that their songs kick ass.”
    - Joe Stumble, Last Days of Man on Earth blog, 4/24/08

    “It wasn’t that horrible.”
-Laurel’s mom (senior-citizen/talk radio fan), after seeing The 75s live for the first time.

  • LEFT ARM: Dissatisoul CD (TIRC-003)

    LEFT ARM: Dissatisoul CD (TIRC-003)

12 SCORCHING-HOT blasts of PRIMAL, RAW ST. LOUIS GARAGE-PUNK! Produced by Jason Hutto. The first TIRC Records release in over 7 years. (Yeah, and you’d hoped we’d never return… MUHAHAHAHA!!) Left Arm is a loud-ass, low-down and dirty garage punk rock ‘n’ roll band from Edwardsville, IL (just across the dirty Mississippi from St. Louis).

    Landlocked & Loaded!LEFT ARM: Dissatisoul CD (TIRC-003)

With two to the east and one to the west, the members of St. Louis-based LEFT ARM straddle the great muddy Mississippi like a vagrant three-legged dog, foaming at the mouth and looking for trouble. Their new CD, Dissatisoul, is the result of that dog running riot, unleashing an attack of ferocious, primitive garage-punk rock ‘n roll. First formed as a disjointed duo in 2002 by drummer Jason Potter (Space Age Palmer, The Cradles, The Detainees) and guitarist Jeff White, LEFT ARM released the full-length debut album Dirty Mississippi Sound on Sluggo Records in 2003. Shortly thereafter, fuzz bassist Jim Stotts (The Cradles, Lost At Sea) joined his old cohorts full time, cementing LEFT ARM’s ramrod rhythm section. Following two additional self-released EPs (Hotmouth Jive and Play 5 Songs with a Caveman) and a revolving door of guitarists (White left in early 2006, as did replacements Scott Walus and Brad Evetts), LEFT ARM continued to evolve with the addition of new axe man Joe Stumble (The Malmsteems, The Urban Druids). Their latest effort, Dissatisoul, was forged over two sweaty sessions and strikes the listener with the impact of bruised knuckles on a broken jawbone. Dissatisoul captures the raw, primal energy of LEFT ARM’s raucous, beer-soaked live shows in twelve scorching new tracks. Presently, LEFT ARM has staked their claim as the modern kings of the St. Louis underground scene by opening for such road-heavy bands as the Gore Gore Girls, the Briefs, GitoGito Hustler, Crimson Sweet, the Riverboat Gamblers, Valient Thorr, the Spunks, Diamond Nights, M.O.T.O., Brain Failure, Thee Fine Lines, CoCoComa, the Hipshakes and the Litigators. Oh, and attention PODCASTERS… Left Arm’s music is podsafe!

The first and for quite a few years the ONLY surf/instro band from St. Louis released this 7″ EP on TIRC Records way back in the hot, sweaty summer of 2000. No digitized files of the these two songs (”Tossage” and “Tell ‘em Large Marge Sent Ya”) exist, at least not until I can track down the master… In the meantime, there are a dozen or so copies of the 7″ collecting dust in my basement, so if you’d like one, shoot me $3.00 PPD via PayPal, and don’t forget to include your mailing address!

    V/A: Landlocked & Loaded! CD (TIRC-001)

At long last! TIRC Records is proud to announce the arrival of the brand-new Landlocked & Loaded! CD compilation of hi-octane
rock’n'roll from the great midwest! This release showcases many underground rock’n'roll (garage, psych, punk, surf, & rockabilly) bands from the St. Louis area and the surrounding landlocked Midwest from 1997–1999. 16 bands, 27 songs, 74+ minutes. Great sound! [Released May 2000]

    Landlocked & Loaded!V/A: Landlocked & Loaded! CD (TIRC-001)

Kopper’s first money-losing venture in the record industry! Released in May 2000, this primo slab features 27 songs from bands from the St. Louis area and the landlocked Midwest, including favorites from now-defunct bands such as Thee Lordly Serpents, 12 Gauge Blues, the Delstars, Johnny Magnet, Space Age Palmer, the Revelators (two songs not on their Crypt Records LP), the Bent Scepters, plus a coupla bands that are still alive and kickin’, like the Trip Daddys, Ded Bugs, and the (recently resurrected) Honkeys and Geargrinders, not to mention corrected versions of a couple of the Cripplers’ songs (and one by Thee Phantom 5ive) that were mastered incorrectly (wrong DAT speed) on the original CD release (oops!). Here is an article about the comp that appeared in the Riverfront Times. You can still order a copy of this on CD (there are about a dozen or so left), but it’s still got that nagging mastering problem, so I would recommend just downloading the corrected files that are available below:
